This past weekend on March 13-15th, The Boys & Girls Club partnered with the YWCA of Kauai to hold the 1st annual Kauai Youth Network Youth Activist Summit. The Kauai Youth Network, orKYN, is a new youth organization sponsored by the YWCA of Kauai and the Boys & Girls Club Kaua’i Branch. The KYN seeks to inspire and assist young people to lead the change they want to see both on Kauai and throughout the world.
The summit was held at the YWCA’s Camp Slogget at beautiful Kokee. 24 youth, as well as various adult volunteers, participated in the summit. The purpose of the summit was for the KYN to come together to form a group of youth who will be actively advocating change for youth issues on the island of Kauai. At the summit we identified the issues facing youth, created a working organizational structure, as well as a mission statement for the organization. We also had tons of fun!
